Science content ideas for social media that do not need a lab

October 14, 2026 · 6 min read

Twelve repeatable science video formats for short-form feeds, from counter-intuitive physics to everyday chemistry, with hooks you can reuse.

Science travels when it contradicts

The best-performing science shorts do not teach a topic; they overturn an assumption. Hot water can freeze faster than cold. The ocean is salty but rain is not. Glass is not a slow liquid. Start every idea by finding the sentence a viewer would argue with, then spend the video earning it.

Twelve formats worth a series each

Counter-intuitive physics. Everyday chemistry in a kitchen. Why a natural phenomenon looks the way it does. The animal that does something impossible. Space distances explained with a local object. The invention that changed one measurement. What happens inside the body in sixty seconds. Weather myths. Materials that should not exist. The maths of something familiar. A scientist whose work failed. A number that explains a system.

Hooks you can reuse

“This should not be possible, and yet”. “You have been told this your whole life and it is wrong”. “The reason is smaller than a grain of salt”. “Nobody could explain this for two hundred years”. Keep a file of hooks and match subjects to them, rather than writing a script and hoping a hook appears.

Avoid the two failure modes

The first is a lecture: three facts stacked with no tension. The second is vagueness: a beautiful clip with no claim in it. A science short needs exactly one claim, one piece of evidence and one closing line that reframes it. If the script has four claims, it is four videos.

Accuracy is the growth strategy

Science audiences correct errors loudly, and a single bad claim follows a channel for months. Keep a source for every number, avoid simplifying past the point of truth, and treat comment corrections as free editing. Channels that admit a mistake grow faster than channels that defend one.

Turning ideas into a daily queue

Twelve formats times fifty subjects is six hundred videos, which is well over a year of daily output. Choose two or three subjects you can speak about credibly, let the tool write and narrate the films, and spend your own time on the claim and the source.
