Before you hand your social accounts to any automation tool

November 5, 2026 · 5 min read

The access, permissions and exit checks worth doing before an AI publisher posts on your behalf, and what a good connection should never ask for.

Access is the real decision

Anything that posts for you can, by definition, reach your audience in your name. That makes the access question the important one and the feature list the secondary one. Before you connect an account, know precisely what the tool can do, what it cannot do, and how you take it back. A tool that cannot answer those three questions in a sentence each is not ready for your account.

It should go through the platform, not a password

Publishing happens through each platform’s own authorisation screen, which creates a revocable connection without ever exposing your password. If a service asks for your login credentials directly, stop there. The same goes for two-factor codes: nobody legitimate needs yours, because the authorised flow does not require them.

Check what it can read as well as write

Posting permission usually arrives with permission to see your profile, your follower count and your posts’ statistics. That is normal and it is how performance reporting works. What is not normal is a request for private messages, follower lists or anything unrelated to publishing. Read the permission names on the consent screen, not the tool’s summary of them. Failure handling is the other half of that trust, as what to check in a scheduler sets out.

Know your exit before you need it

Find where the connection lives inside each platform, so you know today how to revoke it tomorrow. On most platforms it sits under security or connected apps, and revoking it there stops posting immediately whatever the tool claims. An automation you can leave in two clicks is a much smaller commitment than one whose only off switch is an email to support.

Pause rather than cancel when you travel

There will be weeks when you do not want a film going out. The right control is a pause that keeps your accounts, your library and your settings intact, not a cancellation and a fresh start. Check for one before you sign up, because the week you need it is the worst possible week to discover it does not exist. What the platforms themselves allow is covered in is AI video allowed on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.
